Media Party Africa has ended

Media Party Africa is hosted by the continent’s largest data journalism and civic technology federation, Code for Africa, in partnership with Hacks/Hackers Africa. Together, we’re gathering some of the world’s most exciting civic technologists, digital journalists and other social justice watchdogs from across the world for three days of workshops and talks.
We have speakers confirmed from Vox, ProPublica, ESPN, Buzzfeed Labs, Quartz, Huffington Post, Zeit Investigativ, Google, Jigsaw, First Draft News, the Gates Foundation, the Mozilla OpenNews Fellowships, and many more, talking everything from drone and sensor journalism, to how they’re pioneering 360˚and VR journalism, investigative technologies, geojournalism, verification, chat apps and the rise of the bots.

Tulanana is a multimedia journalist and producer for the BBC World Service in East Africa. She has been reporting from the region for 6 years for radio, television and digital platforms and is now the planning producer for Swahili and Somali services.

With Ona Stories, she is passionately exploring video for the mobile medium, and has studied how and what African audiences engage with on their phone for 3 years.

She is award winning filmmaker, for her film "Uthando" winning a special mention Ousmane Sembene award at the Zanzibar International Film Festival and nominated at BlackStar International Film festival 2016, Africa International Film Festival 2016.

At TEDxIlala, she spoke about how mobile technology is changing the way content is created and shared on the African continent.
